Our stores set to give away thousands of free books and toys to children this Christmas

Posted: 03.11.26

Hundreds of Salvation Army charity stores are all set to give away free children’s books and toys as part of our Christmas campaign this year.

Through our 250+ Salvation Army charity shops and donation centres which we operate on behalf of our parent charity, we will invite families to pick one free children’s book or toy per child as part of the campaign ‘We’re here. Spreading Christmas joy, one gift at a time’.

Garry Smith, Director of Mission at Salvation Army Trading Company (SATCoL), said:

“For many families, the cost of Christmas can feel overwhelming. Through our ‘Free Book or Toy for Every Child’ offer, we're helping families create special moments while easing some of the strain many are experiencing during this expensive time of year. We want to ensure that children can enjoy the wonder of Christmas and that families know their local Salvation Army charity shop is here to support them.”

Salvation Army shops operated by SATCoL will run the offer from 1st December for one week. Families and guardians can simply pop along to their nearest store and pick a children’s book or toy. This new offer will add to the thousands of gifts distributed by The Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal. Last year, the charity shared more than 74,000 gifts across the UK and Ireland, bringing hope and support to people facing hardship.

Nicola Crawford, Director of Retail at SATCoL, said:

“Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we have an abundance of children's books and toys available in our charity shops this Christmas. Every donation represents someone wanting to help others. It's a reminder that, when communities come together, we can help ensure more children experience the kindness of others and the joy of receiving something special.”
