The community of Taunton have welcomed a brand new Salvation Army donation centre, which opened it's doors to the public on Tuesday 29th September 2026.
Leading the store is Manager Nathan Harris, who brings with him 22 years of retail experience, and his army of over 50 volunteers and staff. The donation centre, operated by SATCoL (Salvation Army Trading Company) is the first of it’s kind, hosted across two separate units in the same retail park, one dedicated to furniture and community space, the other full of fashion bargains for the local community.

The new donation centre offers a huge 74 space car park. free furniture collections, and a dedicated community hub space which is will be home to many local community groups such as bereavement support, crafting drop in sessions and even a dedicated board game night on Saturdays. The space has been made welcoming by a local artist called Rotten Apples, who created a beautiful mural instore, depicting the wonderful community of Taunton.
When asked to share about the donation centres future aspirations, Nathan highlighted the importance of being part of the community. “I want the community hub to be the key. It’s the most important thing we can do here at the moment. The pricing will sell itself.”
The opening day brought flocks of customers, a full 74 space car park and even a burger van! “The atmosphere just felt happy. Everyone was just really pleased that we were trying our hardest. Even the car park opposite us was full!" The opening day was supported by the local Salvation Army Corps Officer, Lieutenant Jonathan Culshaw, who did the honorary ribbon cutting.

“The local Salvation Army Corps have been absolutely brilliant" shared Nathan, "They've been really supportive. We even have five of their members volunteer with us.”
Reflecting on the significance of the new store, Sarah Heaney, Business Performance Manager for Donation Centres at SATCoL shared, "The opening of our 66th Donation Centre marks an important step in how we continue to support the local community, by increasing access to good‑quality, low‑cost items and ensuring donations are used in ways that have a positive impact locally."
