SATCoL Spotlights Neurodiversity Week

Posted: 16.03.26

Neurodiversity Week is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences, aiming to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported.

We at SATCoL (Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd) are supported by over 8,000 colleagues, both paid employees and volunteers. Diversity across our teams and divisions gives us strength, and creates opportunities to recognise the many talents and advantages each individual brings. This includes celebrating and embracing neurodiverse attributes and needs, and acknowledging the importance of diversity.

In 2022, we launched the ‘Introduction to Neurodiversity in the Workplace’ course on our internal e-learning platform The Learning Booth. The course is a helpful resource for colleagues, aimed at equipping them with the knowledge and understanding needed to support their teams, and identify their neurodivergent strengths.

Clinton Burn, Learning and Development Manager at SATCoL, shares how we should give those with neurodiverse attributes the respect and space needed to grow: “It is vital as we move towards more inclusive communities to be able to better understand each other. Learning about how other people process their experience of the world makes working together easier and more positive.”  A total of 299 colleagues so far have completed the course, with the number set to grow in the coming year.

Clinton continues by saying: “Being educated on subjects such as ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia and other Neurodiverse conditions, with a clear understanding of the basics, allows us to support our colleagues through their challenges.”

The course has received extremely positive feedback from various divisions within SATCoL, with one colleague sharing: “The course has helped me understand not only my own strengths, but also how to understand others who share similar challenges, and how we can work together to overcome them.”

Thank you to all of our colleagues who have completed the course.
