SATCoL has received the Positive Community Impact Award for its notable achievements in using its eLearning platform to help drive a wider and positive societal change.

Clinton Burn, Learning and Development Manager at Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL), accepted the award at the Nimble Community Day held on 18 September at Stonehouse Court Hotel in Gloucestershire. Nimble is the eLearning technology provider for SATCoL’s eLearning platform, The Learning Booth, which was launched in 2020. This latest award builds on the continued success of The Learning Booth which has around 120 bespoke courses tailored for SATCoL’s paid members of staff and volunteers (over 1,200 and over 5,500 respectively), all of whom have access to the free training provided via The Learning Booth.

SATCoL’s eLearning training focuses on providing colleagues with access to a large and ever-growing catalogue of high-quality courses, allowing them to self-enrol on those modules that interest them or are relevant to their role.

Clinton Burn said: “For the Positive Community Impact Award, we focused on new Environmental Awareness courses developed in collaboration between the Learning & Development and Environment & Sustainability teams. We linked the launch of the modules to our Conference theme, Dare to CARE for the Environment. With that approach, and our regular communications, course sign-ups and completions skyrocketed.”

The Nimble judges noted the success factors of the courses that have also helped SATCoL win other major awards: “SATCoL split their Environmental Awareness course into two modules, making it more practical and relatable. It promotes sustainability at work and home, highlights SATCoL’s achievements, and helped them win the 2024 Charity Retail Association’s Environmental and Sustainability Award.”

Sarah Trivett, Head of HR and Training, said: “Our eLearning is vital in supporting the personal and professional development of our colleagues, as well as underpinning our culture, our values and our strategic goals. Through our colleague surveys and regular feedback, we are always tuned into the training needs of our colleagues, and we continually review and refresh our courses to make sure we are meeting those needs. Nimble has been a fantastic partner to work with. The platform itself is flexible, adaptable and easy-to-use and it has helped us to develop our eLearning platform into a valuable learning asset for our company.”

SATCoL was also a finalist in the Course of the Year category for its Neurodiversity in the Workplace course. Commenting on the finalist shortlisting, the judges said:

“A strong course covering an important topic. Neurodiversity was brought to life in this course through the inclusion of relevant videos and real-life case studies. The learner was encouraged to think about the challenges and benefits of several neurodivergent conditions and the objectives were clear. The content was engaging and benefitted from the authors having conducted first-hand interviews.”
